Elam Construction has been building quality driveways for more
than 50 years. We are licensed and bonded and warranty our work
for one year.
Don’t trust your driveway to somebody going door to door. These
fly-by-night contractors typically show up in an area, offer low
prices to get some quick work, do a poor-quality job, and then
disappear, along with your money. Have it done right the first
time!
For a quick budget quote, contact an estimator in your area; our
estimators can give you a rough idea of the cost based simply on
square footage. For a firm price quote, we’ll need to come to
your home, measure your driveway, and check for proper water
drainage.
A typical driveway will consist of 4 to 6 inches of crushed
road base material placed on the compacted native soil. Road
base provides a firm platform on which to apply the asphalt. A
pre-emergent is applied on top of the road base to help prevent
weeds. The base is then covered with a compacted 3-inch layer of
asphalt. Temperature is important when applying asphalt.
Typically, asphalt should be applied when temperatures are above
40 degrees and no frost is present.
Some advantages of using asphalt include (1) it absorbs heat
from the sun to aid in ice and snow melt, (2) it is 100%
recyclable, and (3) it can be driven on once it has cooled
(usually within a couple of hours). Concrete may require up to 7
days for proper curing.
Elam can also construct, shape, or rehabilitate your gravel
driveway.
