GRAND JUNCTION AREA
GRAND MESA CENTER
Grand Junction is growing! Everywhere you look buildings are going up. Streets and roads are being upgraded, adding much to the frustration of drivers.
In the midst of all of this activity is a major project of special interest to the Elam Construction Grand Junction area. This project is the Grand Mesa Center, a 200,000 square foot, 28-acre shopping complex, located just west of 25 Road on Hwy 6 & 50.
The project is owned by AIG Baker and has been in the planning stages for approximately two years. R & O Construction is the prime contractor for this major shopping addition to the Grand Valley. Subcontracts were bid this past spring with Elam Construction, Inc. being awarded the subcontract for the subgrade prep and paving. Site preparations for the Center include removal of several older business buildings, clearing trees, and leveling of the site. Eventually, the frontage road along Hwy 6 & 50 in front of the site will be removed and a new intersection built for direct access from 6 & 50. A second entrance off of 25 Road will provide additional access.
According to Elam Project Manager Dave Verble, the No. 1 anchor store will be Sportsman's Warehouse. At the time of this writing, Roy Runnestrand and Mike Moser's crews were completing the prep for the building pad for this store. Tentative plans are to have it open by Christmas 2001. Other anchor stores include Old Navy and Ross (clothing stores). Negotiations are also underway with TJ Max and Michaels.
The work will carry through the remainder of this season with tentative completion of the entire project due in early Spring 2002. Congratulations to Dave Verble and the Grand Junction area crews for their fine work on this special project.
